October to March for pleasant weather. Baisakhi (April 13) is Amritsar's grandest festival. Diwali when the shrine is lit by tens of thousands of candles is extraordinary.

- Arrive at Wagah Border by 4:00 PM for good seating — ceremony draws thousands daily.
- Mobile phones are prohibited inside the inner sanctum; lockers available.
- The dawn Palki Sahib ceremony at 04:30 AM is the most sacred moment — be punctual.
- Alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited in the Golden Temple premises.
- Amritsar is an emotional city — allow yourself to be moved.
